Following is an email that I
sent to a friend some weeks
ago on a similar note.
Dear
Asim,
Your
statement that skepticism
that subjects everything to
the standards of logic
doesn't create a value is
flat wrong. It's like saying
that science has no value
because skepticism lies in
the very heart of science.
If it weren't for
Copernicus' skepticism, we
would still be beleiving in
an earh-centric universe.
You
may argue that all scientist
are skeptics but not all
skeptics are scientists
which would certainly be
true. Even for non-scientist
skeptics, like myself, I
would refuse to accept your
charge. I am sure that no
major city will say that
garbage disposal doesn't
create a value. That's
exactly what we skeptics are
doing. We are disposing
garbage that humanity has
collected thru the ages of
ignorance and which is now
posing major huinderences in
the development of
independent human thought
and the floroushing of
scientific attitude. This
garbage can Only be disposed
thru cold and unemotional
logical analyses.
Regards,
Rafi
