As Khizr grew older
he realized
in his home
things were said
that should not have been said
and things were not said
that should have been said
There were days
he wished
he was not born
There were evenings
he could feel
a tension in his whole being
and in the whole home
His mother asked him many times
Tell dad dinner is ready
and when he relayed the message
his dad responded

Tell mom, I don't want to have dinner

Khizr did not know what was wrong
but he knew
something was not right.
